Attempted Murder Trial Set for Man with 145 Guns in Home

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – An April 25 trial date has been set for a Rochester Hills man accused of trying to kill his wife last month during a domestic dispute.

Authorities with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office removed 145 guns from the home of John Lewis Piotrowski, 69, after his terrified wife called police and said Piotrowski had shot at her twice in an attempt to kill her. The cache of weapons included 87 rifles and 68 handguns.

Piotrowski was subsequently charged with attempted murder and weapons charges. He was arraigned Thursday before Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Martha Anderson and formally charged with assault to commit murder and two counts of possession of firearm while committing a felony.

The victim said she was talking with Piotrowski in the bedroom of their home the evening of Dec. 2 when Piotrowski got up and said he was going to kill her. He allegedly grabbed her around the neck, but she was able to get away and retreat to the basement.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said Piotrowski followed his wife downstairs while she was on the phone with police, shot at her twice and then went back upstairs.

Both shots missed the victim, who then ran outside to wait for deputies to arrive, according to police.
