Avani Govindswamy honored as Avondale Top Scholar

Rochester Hills, Michigan resident and the daughter of Kiran and Prabha Govindswamy, Avani Govindswamy is the Avondale High School Class of 2020 Salutatorian. A member of the swim team as a freshman and the cross country team as a sophomore and junior, Avani also played four years on the Varsity tennis team where she was to serve as Team Captain in her senior year. In addition to athletics, Avani was in the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society, and the Spanish Honor Society. She served on the Class Board as Treasurer and was active in the Diversity Club performing as well as choreographing dances. Avani was also a member of the student-run non-profit organization, Moments Photography. An accomplished artist, Avani received honors for her piece Eye Shadow, which was selected in the top 18 of submissions to the MAEA’s Top 100 Show; and also a Scholastic Art and Writing Gold Key Award for her piece Nostalgia. In the fall, Avani will be attending the University of Michigan to study Biomedical Engineering.
