Avondale Schools celebrates Claire Matthews

Avondale High School Top Scholar Claire Matthews is the daughter of Lee and Sara Matthews and she resides in Troy, Michigan. She is a three-year member of the National Honor Society and a two-year member of the Spanish Honor Society. Claire is also a member of the award-winning Avondale Women of Concert Choir group. In addition to her academic and music achievements, she is an accomplished athlete. She was on the Varsity track and field team for four years where she served as Captain and was a four-year Scholar Athlete. While on the team, she won two Purple and Gold Awards, was a two-time State qualifier and was awarded All-State. She also played volleyball, earning Scholar Athlete distinction three more times and another Purple and Gold Award. Claire was honored by Avondale Youth Assistance for Community Service. Active in her church, Claire has participated in four mission trips. Her career goal is to work in the medical field. She will be attending Michigan State University to focus on Health Sciences and Pediatrics.
