Avondale Special Parents announce schedule of events for 2016-2017
Group focused on providing information to help parents of special learners

Avondale Special Parents is a group of Avondale School District parents and staff working together to help parents of special learners help their children. At the heart of group’s vision is the notion that children with special learning needs benefit when parents have opportunity to network with other parents. The group is safe and judgment-free, providing opportunity for parents to share concerns about their child’s special challenges; gather useful information; learn about local and national resources that may help them as they support their child’s growth; and mostly connect with other parents for acceptance, advice and guidance.
To that end, the group has developed a schedule of informational events for this school year that brings parents together four times from November through April with plans for an all-family event in early summer, 2017. The first event on November 2nd, brings together organizations designed to serve the needs of special learners and their families. Called Information Station, the evening features information tables from Down Syndrome Guild, Easter Seals, Michigan Dyslexia Institute, Miracle League, MORC, RARA/SCAMP, ARC of Oakland County and many more.
Information Station will be held at Avondale Middle School (1445 W. Auburn Road, Rochester Hills, Michigan) on November 2, 2016 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. There is no reservation required to attend. Please email annette.mcavoy@avondale.k12.mi.us if you are planning to bring your child and wish to reserve a spot for them in the babysitting room.
