Benefactor Honors Late Wife's Artistic Passion With Scholarship
Helping students achieve their dreams keeps Helen Schodowski's passion for the arts alive.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – Helen Schodowski loved to dance, act and paint.
She died in 2013, but her husband, Jack, of Rochester Hills, is keeping her memory alive by establishing a scholarship fund at the Avondale School District, The Oakland Press reports.

“She loved to do things to express her creativity,” Schodowski said, explaining his decision to support students who want to study the arts after high school.
Helping others achieve their dreams is a “good way to remember Helen,” he said.

Schodowski will donate $1,000 each year to a scholarship fund to be shared by three seniors.
Avondale art teacher Leigh Wright called the gift “incredibly generous and thoughtful.”
Schodowski’s company, Shelving Inc., is located in Auburn Hills, where the Avondale School District — which serves students from Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, Troy and Bloomfield Township.
“We always felt connected to the district because of where our company is located,” Schodowski said. “Now our grandchildren go to school here so I feel even more connected.”
