Bill Nye 'The Science Guy' Speaks on Pi Day at Oakland U
Sold-out speech this year's installment of the Varner Vitality Lecture Series.

ROCHESTER, MI – “Science Guy” Bill Nye will speak to a sold-out crowd on Pi Day, March 14, at Oakland University’s Varner Vitality Lecture Series.
The annual series, named in honor of Oakland’s first chancellor, Durward “Woody” Varner, aims to energize and sustain the highest academic and scholarly aspirations of the university community.

Nye, a scientist, author and inventor perhaps best-known for his popular TV show, “The Science Guy,” has “inspired many people of all ages to explore science and to think critically about the world around us,” Dr. James Lentini, senior vice president for academic affairs and OU provost, said in a news release.
“His own work as an inventor and scientist adds to the perspective he brings,” Lentini said.

Nye’s extensive body of work includes raising awareness about climate change, discoveries in evolution and raising the standard of living for women and girls across the globe.
In 2010, Nye was elected the American Humanist Association’s Humanist of the Year, and in 2012 was honored by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers with the Ralph Coates Roe Medal. He holds Honorary Doctorate degrees from six universities, is the CEO of the Planetary Society and hopes to inspire people everywhere to change the world.
After the lecture, attendees will have the chance to snap a photo with Nye and get a signed copy of the New York Times bestselling author’s newest book, “Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World.”
