Detached Condos Likely on Rochester Hills' Southern Border

The development was originally proposed in 2008, but was put on hold after the economy soured.

ROCHESTER HILLS – A new condominium development could be built along the southern border of Rochester Hills in an area currently zoned for single-family residences.

The Rochester Hills City Council recently gave preliminary approval to The Commons South project for 12 detached condominiums which would occupy 3.98 acres on the north side of Shortridge Avenue east of Livernois Road, The Oakland Press reports.

The City Council gave minimal discussion to the proposal at its meeting Monday before referring it back to the city’s Planning Commission, where it was originally filed in 2008. The project was put on hold when the economy soured.

The new owner of the land, Vaqar Siddiqui, is proposing a similar development, but has updated it to comply with stormwater regulations that weren’t in place seven years ago. Lot sizes are slightly smaller, and the site plan preserves trees and other vegetation, a concern of neighbors when Siddiqui met with them in August.
