Avondale School District announces that a dedication ceremony for the newly named Chuck Nurek Field House will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012.
The naming ceremony will take place at approximately 6:30 p.m., immediately following the Avondale boys’ junior varsity basketball game, which begins at 5:00 p.m., and prior to the boys’ varsity basketball game, which begins at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will run for approximately 30 minutes, with a reception for Mr. Nurek in the Avondale High School media center immediately following. Avondale Superintendent Dr. George Heitsch notes the ceremony is open to the public and Avondale alumni and former athletes are encouraged to attend to personally extend their good wishes to Mr. Nurek.
Mr. Nurek served as the Athletic Director at Avondale High School from 1978 to 1999. The Avondale School Board voted in November 2011 to approve the naming of the field house after Mr. Nurek based on his outstanding service and dedication to Avondale.
