Family Of Madisyn Baldwin Files Lawsuit Against Oxford School District

OXFORD, MI — The family of Madisyn Baldwin, who was one of four students killed in the deadly Oxford school shooting in November filed a lawsuit against the school district Tuesday, arguing school officials could have prevented the tragedy, according to a news release from the family’s attorney.

"It is clear after reviewing documents and seeing testimony in the preliminary Exam of Crumbley’s parents, that the school administrators failed the students of Oxford High School," the office of Attorney Wolf Mueller in a statement said.

Furthermore, Mueller said the shooting was "predictable and preventable."

"While in the school counselor's office on November 30, with a backpack containing the murder weapon and 48 rounds, a mentally ill child was crying out for help, and two present parents could or would not help him," the news release said. "There were only two grownups in the room, the Oxford High School employees, and they placed the child back into the classroom where he would wreak havoc a short while later."

Madisyn Baldwin was one of four students killed in the massacre, along with Tate Myre, Justin Shilling and Hana St. Juliana. Seven other people were also wounded in the shooting when authorities said a 15-year-old student opened fire in the school on Nov. 30.

Tate Myre's family also sued the district, its employees, and Ethan Crumbley in January. Justin Shilling's family joined the suit in May, and Hana St. Juliana's family filed a separate lawsuit in April.

Oxford School Officials were under fire for declining a free third-party review from Attorney General Dana Nessel's office, instead they opted to hire two hired two independent law firms to investigate the events leading up to the deadly shooing at Oxford High School on Nov. 30.
