Grant Awarded To Rochester Schools' Special Education Program

A grant of $10,980 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affair was awarded.

ROCHESTER-ROCHESTER HILLS, MI - From Rochester Community Schools: The Rochester Community Schools Special Education program has recently been awarded a grant of $10,980 from the State of Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

“We are very excited that our students from the Adult Transition Program will benefit from the MCACA grant again this year. This support will enable us to provide access to dance and drama for more than 45 young adults with special needs,” said Executive Director of Special Education Anne Evans.

The grant was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and was one of 575 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2018 funding. The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and culture professionals.

Organizations receiving an MCACA grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. “We appreciate the support provided by the state to ensure our students experience of the benefits of dance and drama programs,” said Superintendent Robert Shaner, Ph.D. “Rochester Community Schools has proudly matched the funds to help support our students with special needs.”

The Special Education program plans to host a drama and dance performance featuring the ATPS students at the end of the 2018-19 school year. “We are excited to showcase our students so our community members can see firsthand how vital state support is to our efforts,” said Evans.
