Group Mocks, Shoots Disabled Man In Wheelchair With Pellet Gun In Oakland County: Sheriff

PONTIAC, MI — Officials are looking for a group of people who they said shot a disabled man Saturday morning in Oakland County with a pellet gun and then mocked him as he rode in his wheelchair.

Officials said the disabled man was in his wheelchair on the sidewalk near the intersection of Bennett Street and Baldwin Road in Pontiac at 12:17 a.m. when a small tan sedan pulled up next to him.

Someone inside the car then fired multiple shots from a pellet gun, striking the disabled man multiple times, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

After the shooting, the occupants inside the car laughed and shouted at the disabled man as they drove away, officials said.

The 30-year-old Pontiac man was taken to a nearby hospital with minor wounds, officials said.

"It is reprehensible that someone would do such a cowardly and despicable thing to an individual in a wheelchair, and they need to be held accountable," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

Officials offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Tipsters remain anonymous.
