The section was expanded to three lanes from two with the addition of a center left-turn lane, among other improvements.

Hamlin Elementary students attended an Oct. 14 ribbon-cutting ceremony, responding with an enthusiastic “yes” when Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett asked if their parents ever complained about construction delays as the project was being completed.

“I’m sure the inconvenience was felt at times, but when we open this road, 15,000 vehicles a day — and that’s over several million every year — will benefit from the safety improvements out here,” aid Cheryl Gregory, vice president and director of engineering at Spalding DeDecker, the general contractor for the project.

Debbie Fragomeni, assistant superintendent of Rochester Community Schools, said she’s confident the improvements will make Hamlin Elementary more accessible to students and staff.

“Together, collaboratively, and for the kids that stand before us, we’re celebrating today,” Fragomeni said.
