Homicides Continue Rising In Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Homicides in Oakland County continued rising as 2022 came to an end, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Officials reported 37 Oakland County homicides in 2022, a slight uptick from 35 in 2021. There were 26 homicides in 2020 and 21 in 2019. In 2018, 29 homicides were reported by officials, and 17 in 2017.

Pontiac accounted for 14 of the 37 slayings in 2022, while the rest were spread out across numerous other communities, including:

• 3 each in Groveland Township, Hazel Park and Troy
• 2 each in Independence Township, Madison Heights, Oak Park and White Lake
• 1 each in Lake Orion, Oxford, Rochester Hills, Waterford Township, Walled Lake and Wixom
