Jenoptik Breaks Ground on Rochester Hills Expansion

The project is expected to bring up to 300 technology jobs to the community.

Rochester Hills, MI — The Jenoptik Group, a German-based company that supports the automobile industry and has had a presence in Rochester Hills since 2007, is investing $15 million in a new 16-acre technology campus that will add new jobs

The investment will create between 225 and 300 new jobs. The company currently employs about 100 in Rochester Hills.

Jenoptik, which currently leases facilities at 1505 W. Hamlin Road, broke ground on the 100,000-square-foot technology campus last month. It is located on a lot adjacent to the leased facilities and is the single largest investment in the company’s history, according to a news release.

"The state-of-the-art campus allows us to get even closer to our customers in the U.S. automotive industry", Jenoptik President and CEO Michael Mertin said in a release.

Construction will be completed in three phases, and each will create between 75 and 100 new jobs. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed in March 2017, but the company didn’t say when the other two phases would be completed.

Jenoptik paid $2.3 million for the land from the city, which did site preparation work  under the Local Development Financing Act of 1986.
