Job Openings Hit Record High: Here Are Thousands of Them

A new report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics brought good news for job seekers: Job openings are in the millions.

The number of job openings hit 5.8 million on the last day of July, the most for one month since December 2000, when the bureau began tracking employment opportunities.

The previous high was 5.4 million, in May 2015.

The Northeast region had the biggest gain in job openings, with the South coming in second out of the four U.S. regions that the bureau tracks. The West was third with the Midwest last, though all four had an increase in openings.

You can find plenty of these openings on the Patch Jobs Board, where employers post thousands of jobs every day.

Here are some examples:

• Food Service Worker: “Seeking food service aides for a few different schools in the Oakland County area.”
• IT Professionals (Freshers & Experienced): “We are a Michigan based IT consulting firm with our core area of expertise in BI/DW & Application Programming. … We are actively hiring talented IT professionals with experience/knowledge in different technologies to work on our internal projects and ongoing projects across United States.”
• Commercial Painters: “Tradesmen International is seeking experienced commercial painters to join our team. If you are a journeyman painter skilled in painting different types of surfaces using a variety of tools and techniques this is your chance to advance your career.”

• Public Relations & Marketing Communications - Entry Level: “We are looking for several sports-minded account coordinators to learn our clients’ campaigns from the ground up and following a -month training program, potentially advance into a more senior account management role.”
• Administrative Assistant to the CEO: “We are a growing educational content development company, partnering with organizations to develop customized educational content, including courses, lesson plans, passages, assessment items, and more. ... Our company has won ‘Best Small Business in Oakland County’ and one of ‘Fifty Companies to Watch in Michigan.’”
