Meadow Brook Hall Aims to Open Doors Through “Museums for All”

In an effort to encourage people of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build lifelong museum-going habits, Meadow Brook Hall has joined Museums for All. The program supports individuals receiving food assistance with a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card by offering reduced admission for just $3 a person for up to four people.

“Museums for All is a wonderful program that places Meadow Brook Hall in company with some of the most progressive museums around the country,” said Geoff Upward, executive director of Meadow Brook Hall. “As a National Historic Landmark, we are committed to preserving the estate and sharing the pioneering legacy of the Dodge and Wilson families by engaging and inspiring diverse audiences. We are proud to open our doors to the entire community and hope to welcome more people of all backgrounds throughout the year.”

Participants in the Museums for All program can show their SNAP EBT card in the Museum Shop for a discounted tour admission of $3 per person for up to four guests per card. The rate is valid for Daily House Tours, Behind the Scenes Tours, or Walking Estate Tours.

The program helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities. More than 250 institutions across 40 states participate in the initiative, including art museums, children’s museums, science centers, botanical gardens, zoos, history museums, and more.

Museums for All is a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM).

Meadow Brook Hall is the historic home built by one of the automotive aristocracy’s most remarkable women, Matilda Dodge Wilson, widow of auto pioneer John Dodge, and her second husband, Alfred Wilson. Constructed between 1926 and 1929, Meadow Brook Hall represents one of the finest examples of Tudor-revival style architecture in America, and is especially renowned for its superb craftsmanship, architectural detailing and grand scale of 88,000 square-feet. It was the center of a country estate that included 1,500 acres, numerous farm buildings, recreational facilities, several residences and formal gardens.

Named a National Historic Landmark in 2012, Meadow Brook Hall strives to preserve and interpret its architecture, landscape, and fine and decorative art so that visitors may be entertained, educated and inspired by history.

Museums for All helps expand access to museums and also raise public awareness about how museums in the U.S. are reaching their entire communities.
