Multiple Oakland County Beaches Closed Due To High Levels Of Bacteria

Eight beaches in the county were closed Thursday afternoon after tests showed unsafe amounts of E.coli levels in the water​.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Multiple beaches in Oakland County were closed Thursday due to high bacteria levels, according to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy's BeachGuard monitoring system.

Eight beaches in the county were closed Thursday afternoon after tests showed unsafe amounts of E.coli levels in the water.

  • Van Norman Lake - Waterford Hill
  • Duck Lake - Axford Acres - Ramada Road
  • Eagle Lake - Lakeland Estates
  • Walled Lake - Lakeshore Park
  • Commerce Lake - Oakley Park
  • Wolverine Lake - Wolverine Lake Manor
  • Commerce Lake - Log Cabin Sub.
  • Kent Lake - Kensington - Martindale Beach

The beaches will remain closed until the bacteria levels fade away. You can check whether a beach has a green or red flag here.

High levels of E. coli bacteria can cause illnesses with symptoms including nausea, vomiting, stomachache, diarrhea, headache and fever, according to health officials.
