New Birthplace at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital

Expectant mothers and their families now have access to one of the area’s most advanced birthing centers with the renovation of the Birthplace at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital.

The newly renovated Birthplace provides the perfect experience for mother and baby—before, during and after childbirth. Built on compassionate and personalized care, the Birthplace unit combines the latest technologies with the expertise of physicians and staff. The Birthplace is designed to make moms feel at home during the birth experience. The renovated unit includes:

* An enhanced Labor-Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum model of care, or LDRP, puts each important phase in into one well-equipped room. The baby stays in the room with the mother the whole time, and families no longer move from room to room.

* Spacious, private rooms were designed to feel like home, with high-end linens and convenient amenities such as flat screen TVs, refrigerators and Wi-Fi.

* Large rooms provide space for the family to stay together, including a sleeper sofa, and it offers ample room when it’s time for visitors.

* Low-intervention birthing room with a labor tub

* The comfortable family lounge is located close to the birthing rooms to let friends and family relax nearby.

Deborah King, RN, MSN, chief nursing officer at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital, led the team from the first concepts to the unit’s completion. In addition, the Birthplace provides 24/7 obstetrician coverage, a Level II Special Care Nursery with private rooms , 24/7 neonatology coverage, and Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians on staff to care for high-risk moms and babies. The Birthplace staff cares for mother and baby from the start to long after the baby is born, with childbirth education and support, post-partum care and lactation consultants.
