Oakland County Health Leader Killed In Murder-Suicide: Sheriff

PONTIAC, MI — A top Oakland County health official was found dead Thursday in a suspected murder-suicide, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office

Oakland County Health Officer Calandra Green, 50, and her husband Charles Quincy Green, 52, were found fatally shot in the living room of their home on the 300 block of Alhambra St. in Pontiac, officials said.

Officials believe Charles Green fatally shot Calandra Green, before turning the gun on himself. Officials found a handgun near the bodies. Officials did not release a motive for the shooting.

"A terrible and tragic situation that we seem to see more often these days," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "It’s hard to understand how someone that professes his love for another person can at some point commit such violence on them. Our prayers are with all those affected by this horrific loss."

Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter confirmed Green's death in a statement Thursday.

"Our hearts are shattered at the news of the passing of our colleague and esteemed Health Officer Dr. Calandra Green," Coulter said in a statement. "Words cannot express how devastating this news is to our Oakland County family. Calandra was a beloved member of our team and a light to all who had the privilege to know and love her."
