Oakland County Man Caught With Child Sexual Abuse Images: Sheriff

PONTIAC, MI — A Pontiac man is facing charges after officers found him with a "large quantity" of child sexually abusive material, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Justin Robert Newton, 43, was charged with five counts of aggravated possession of child sexually explicit material and five counts of using a computer in the commission of a crime. He was placed in jail and denied bond. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 4.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and/or $100,000 fine.

Investigators received a tip in early October that Newton had child sexually abusive material on his laptop and mobile devices, according to the sheriff's office.

The computer crimes unit then "uncovered a large quantity of images and video depicting underage individuals in a sexually explicit manner," according to the sheriff's office.

"Child predators and those that seek to pray on children are some of the most disturbing incidents that we investigate," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "This disgusting criminal behavior often creates lifelong trauma in the victimized children, and we look forward to holding this individual accountable."
