Oakland County Man Wins $1M On Scratch-Off Ticket

ROCHESTER, MI — An Oakland County man won $1 million on a scratch-off ticket, according to Michigan Lottery officials.

The 62-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning Ruby 7s ticket at the Speedway, located at 1010 South Rochester Road in Rochester.

"I picked out several different scratch-off tickets while I was at the store, and as the clerk was grabbing them off the rolls, she asked if I wanted a Ruby 7s ticket too, so I said: ‘Why not,’" the man said.

The man said he scratched the ticket in his car.

"My daughter was with me, so I showed her the ticket, and she nearly hit her head on the roof of the car from jumping up with excitement," the man said.

He chose to receive his prize as a one-time payment of roughly $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount, according to lottery officials.

"This prize is going to give me some leeway financially. It will allow me to start college funds for my kids, buy a house, and then I’ll have some fun with the rest," the player said.
