Oakland County Quilters' Guild Displays Awesome Quilts at Rochester Hills Public Library

Rochester Bicentennial Quilt Show - Rochester Hills Library

Quilters of the Oakland County Quilters’ Guild showed off their talents at the Rochester Hills Public Library with two themes representing the Rochester Area Bicentennial. The Daffodil Challenge, a yearlong project, reflected the thousands of daffodils that were planted to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Rochester Area. The quilts depicting historical buildings paid homage to the history of Main Street and surrounding areas.

The daffodil quilts were on display May 5-7, while the historic building quilts will be on display through the month of May. These beautiful representations of some of Rochester’s oldest buildings are a “must see” for residents. The attention to detail, the color, texture, the design and composition all exhibit the high degree of artistry, creativity and craftsmanship by these dedicated quilters.

Linda Guilbert, president of the OCQG said; “I was very impressed with all of the Daffodil Quilts. They are all so different and use a lot of different techniques. It is always fun to see how everyone's creative minds work so differently with the same challenge!”

“Our Rochester Historic Building quilts have been accepted into the National AQS Quilt Show in Grand Rapids in August 2018, along with 18 more building quilts still in the making;” said Guilbert.

Member, Linda Glisman, who suggested last year to Guilbert that the guild take on the Daffodil Challenge photographed all the quilts and said she was extremely impressed with the high degree of artistry and skill.
