Oakland University Theatre Program to Perform The House of Bernarda Alba

The all-female cast, under the direction of Professor Karen Sheridan, will give nine performances between November 10-20.

The theatre program at Oakland University will continue its performance season on November 10 with a chilling 20TH century masterpiece, The House of Bernada Alba, by Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca.

As the play begins, Bernarda’s second husband has died. She has imposed an eight-year mourning period on her five daughters and forbidden them even to leave the house. Angustias, Magdalena, Amelia, Martirio and Adela grow ever more resentful of their mother’s unyielding power over their lives, and the sexual tension grows to incendiary levels as rumors spread about the intentions of a handsome young man beyond the walls.

The all-female cast, under the direction of Professor Karen Sheridan, will give nine performances, between Thursday, November 10, and Sunday, November 20, two of which will be shadow signed for the Deaf by Synergy on Stage. Those performances are at 2 pm on Sunday, November 13 and at 8 pm on Saturday, November 19.
