One Rochester Hills Intersection Reopens, Another Route Set to Close

Walton Boulevard between Squirrel and Adams roads will close for repairs beginning after rush hour on Friday.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Construction has been completed and the intersection of Rochester and Avon roads has opened ahead of schedule, Rochester Hills official said.

Located within walking distance from the Leader Dogs for the Blind Canine Center, the new improvements will make the intersection safer for pedestrians and drivers that use it daily.

As a result of the funding invested by the Michigan Department of Transportation on this intersection, commuters will notice a smoother drive and significant non motorized improvements along the intersection, the city said.

Also, Walton Boulevard between Squirrel and Adams roads in Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills for culvert repair work beginning Friday, Aug. 19, following morning rush-hour traffic.

The detour for the closure is Adams Road to Tienken Road to Squirrel Road, back to Walton Boulevard and vice versa. Through traffic is advised to use the detour; most residential and business access will be maintained. Residential access at Firewood Drive and Walton will be closed, residents are advised to use Tienken or Adams to get around the closure.

The Road Commission for Oakland County's Highway Maintenance Department staff will be repairing the culvert. The project is expected to conclude the evening Sunday, Aug. 21.

Westbound Walton Boulevard carries approximately 20,000 vehicles daily.
