Oxford Man Killed, 1 Critically Hurt In Rochester Hills Crash: Police

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — An Oxford man died Monday after a three-vehicle crash in Rochester Hills, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Lee James Hershman, 57, was driving a 2008 Ford Taurus eastbound on Michigan 59 between John R and Dequindre roads Monday at 5:35 a.m. when his vehicle was hit by a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck, officials said.

Officials said Hershman was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. Police said he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Investigators said a 25-year-old Brandon Township man was driving the pickup truck in the westbound lanes on Michigan 59 where he lost control of the truck and crossed the median through an "Authorized Vehicles Only" crossing.

The pickup truck then struck Hershman’s car and the guardrails on both sides of Michigan 59 and a third car, officials said.

The pickup truck driver was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition, officials said.

The driver of the third car, a 2020 Buick Envision, a 58-year-old Pontiac woman, was not injured in the crash, officials said.
