Plastic Tray Left on Stove Caused Fire that Evacuated Senior Living Complex

About a dozen units at a Rochester Hills senior living complex were briefly evacuated Monday evening.

A senior living facility in Rochester Hills was partially evacuated because of a fire Monday evening, but residents were allowed back in their homes about 90 minutes later.

About a dozen apartments in the Waltonwood at University senior assisted living complex at 3250 Walton Blvd. were evacuated after a fire of unknown origin was reported around 7:20 p.m., The Oakland Press reports.

The fire was quickly brought under control. The fire apparently started after a plastic tray was left on an electric stove, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Firefighters from Rochester, Auburn Hills, Oakland Township and Addison Township assisted Rochester Hills in fighting the blaze. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
