Police Investigate Bomb Threats Made Against 3 Walmart Stores Across Metro Detroit: Cops

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — A series of bomb threats prompted evacuation from multiple Walmart stores in metro Detroit, including one in Rochester Hills on Monday morning, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said a man called the Walmart store located at 2500 S. Adams Road and demanded money or he would blow up the store.

Similar threats were made at stores in White Lake Township and Canton Township, officials said. The calls were made at about 11 a.m., officials said.

The stores were immediately evacuated after the threats and officers along with explosive detection K-9 units were sent into the stores, where they did not find any explosive devices at either Oakland County store, officials said. There was no immediate word on whether anything was found in Canton.

The stores were expected to reopen sometime later Monday afternoon.

Investigators said the threats may be part of a larger effort to disrupt the company's business.

"We’ve seen similar things happen in different parts of the country," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "In the other threats, they were not credible. But out of an abundance of caution, explosive-detection dogs were sent to check the stores. We will be working with other authorities locally and nationally to investigate."

There were also similar threats made against Walmart stores across the nation, including in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado and other states.
