Police Looking For Who Yelled 'Shots Fired' At Auburn Hills Mall

AUBURN HILLS, MI — Police are looking for the people who yelled "shots fired" Saturday at an Auburn Hills shopping mall as officers separated two teen girls who were fighting, causing a panic inside and outside the mall.

Police said a group of juveniles were fighting inside the Great Lakes Crossing Outlets on Saturday when officers intervened and separated the individuals, who were only identified as minor girls.

An officer used a taser to separate the two teen girls who were fighting and handcuff them, police said.

When officers tried taking the girls into custody, at least one person yelled "shots fired," causing panic in the food court at the mall, police said.

The two teen girls who were handcuffed ran away from officers during the panic inside the mall, police said. They have not been identified or located since.

Police received numerous 911 calls reporting there was an active shooter inside the mall, police said. Multiple social media posts were circulating as well.

Officers tried to control the panic, but were overwhelmed by the large crowd running and ducking for cover, police said.

Police determined no one fired a gun and no one was injured in the panic.

Officials are now working to find the two teen girls who were handcuffed during the fight and ran off during the panic of the false shooter report.

Officials are also working with mall security to collect and examine surveillance video to identify the person or people responsible for starting the panic by yelling "shots fired."

The person who yelled "shots fired" could face criminal charges, police said.
