Prosecutors Share Witness Agreements With 2 Oxford HS Officials

Oakland County prosecutors shared two proffer agreements they made with two Oxford school officials during the Crumbley trials.

PONTIAC, MI — The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office publicly shared two proffer agreements they made with two Oxford school officials during the trials of Jennifer and James Crumbley.

Under the agreements, anything Oxford school officials Nick Ejak and Shawn Hopkins said during testimony would not be used against them if they are ever charged in connection with the deadly shooting, according to the prosecutor's office.

But the agreement does not provide the school officials with any kind of immunity or leniency from prosecution, according to the prosecutor's office.

Prosecutors have maintained they will not charge any school officials (who are protected by governmental immunity) in connection with the deadly shooting, according to the prosecutor's office.

"Both witnesses subsequently testified under oath without any promises or protection, and they were given nothing for their testimony. The information they provided in that initial meeting was exactly what they testified to under oath in court," prosecutors said in a statement.

Families of the victims and community members are still looking to hold school officials accountable by demanding local and state officials to change governmental immunity laws that protect schools from being sued and requiring independent reviews after any mass shooting.

Oxford High School Counselor Shawn Hopkins detailed a meeting he had with the Crumbley family just hours before the deadly shooting and former dean of students for Oxford High School, Nicholas Ejak, described why he believed there was no suspicious reason to check the shooter's backpack during the meeting.

James Crumbley, father of convicted Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley, was found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter last week. James' wife, Jennifer, was also convicted on the same charges back in February. They will be sentenced April 9. Both parents have been in the Oakland County Jail since December 2021.

Ethan Crumbley, who is now 17, was sentenced to life without parole last December after he admitted to the shooting.

The four students killed in the Nov. 30, 2021 shooting were 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 16-year-old Tate Myre, 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin and 17-year-old Justin Shilling.
