Rochester Hills Firm Sponsors Guatemalan Grandmother Through Business Training Helping Her Open Restaurant

Thanks to Magnet Consulting and Caroline’s Promise, Azucena, a Guatemalan mother and grandmother, is prepared to launch her dream of a French fry food cart, offering affordable and different food for her community.

Magnet Consulting, a Rochester Hills based Human Resources and People Engagement firm, sponsored Azucena through a business training course, helping her reach her dream of owning her own business.

Caroline’s Promise, a 501(c)3 based in Kernersville NC, was founded in 2003 with the purpose of educating individuals about the needs of orphans across the country. Through the years, their model evolved to a more preventative holistic approach to orphans and vulnerable children, with an emphasis on partnership in the community and with local churches. They primarily work in Guatemala with programs including child sponsorship, job training, fair trade and short term trips. The organization recently launched its first business training in Guatemala for 24 women looking to start or expand their own business.

“I am privileged to be mom to two adopted Guatemalan daughters,” said Sandy Fiaschetti, co-founder of Magnet Consulting and current Rochester School Board Member. “When I heard about Caroline’s Promise and the business course through one of our Guatemalan networks, I knew it was something that our business needed to support.”

Giving back after a successful year, Magnet Consulting decided to help by sponsoring the entire tuition for one student to attend the business training. Azucena stood out to them because of her dedication and the fact that she was older than the other students.

“We found it inspiring that she wanted to launch a business to help her children and grandchildren,” said Fiaschetti, “Orphan care is important, but empowering women to be able to make a living that will help their children and community is even more sustainable. It can really change that community for the better.”
