Rochester Hills Man Robs Gas Station, Arrest Made: Officials

Officials said using surveillance video, they were able to track his whereabouts to the Red Roof Inn on Crooks Road.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — A man was arrested Monday after police said he robbed a Rochester Hills Speedway gas station at knife point, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Jason Mark Thompson, 45, was charged with armed robbery and placed in the Oakland County Jail on a $500,000 bond. If he is released on bond, District Court Judge Marie Soma ordered that he wear a GPS tether, officials said.

Officials said Thompson entered the gas station at 2255 Crooks Road with a knife at 1:45 a.m. and demanded the cashier to open the cash register. He then told the cashier to get down on his hands and knees while he stole money from the register, officials said.

Using surveillance video, detectives tracked Thompson's whereabouts to the Red Roof Inn, several blocks away on Crooks Road, officials said. He was arrested Monday without incident after he walked into the motel's lobby, officials said.

During an investigation, detectives found evidence of the robbery along Thompson’s flight route, including the weapon used in the robbery, officials said.

Thompson also has an extensive criminal history, which includes convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, fleeing and eluding and retail fraud.
