ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan K. Barnett was sworn-in as mayor Wednesday night for the fifth time, after securing a majority of votes from every precinct across the city in the Nov. 7 election, according to unofficial county election's data.

Barnett's re-election win comes as the most recent community survey showed 94 percent of Rochester Hills residents rated their quality of life as "good" or "great," which is the highest among any city in Michigan, officials said.

"I remain passionate about this privilege every single day, and with the handwritten encouragement of 11,000 residents behind us, we will not slow, rest or waver," Barnett said. "I love my job, I love my team, and I am absolutely committed to representing my constituents with honor and integrity. Thank you, Rochester Hills residents, for granting me the privilege to continue to serve you."

Barnett has served as mayor since 2006 and won re-election races in 2007 and 2011. Although the city charter prevents a mayor from seeking office after serving two-full terms, it doesn't pertain to a candidate running as a write-in candidate.

Barnett then went on to win re-election races in 2015, 2019 and 2023 as a write-in candidate, becoming the only strong mayor in the nation to win three consecutive write-in campaigns in U.S. history.

Marvie Newbauer, a new At-Large Member, and Theresa Mungioli, an incumbent At-Large Member, were also sworn-in Wednesday night.

Additionally, Jason Carlock, who represents District 3 and David Blair, the incumbent representing District 2, took the oath of office to represent their districts on the city council.

"As a council member, you have stepped forward to serve and have decided to dedicate your time and talent to serving your neighbors. You will literally see that work unfold before your eyes," City Council President Ryan Deel said. "This position is both noble and rewarding, and I know you will get much satisfaction out of your time here in Council and I look forward to working with all of you."
