Rochester Hills Offers Guidance To Keep Deer Out Of Yards

City officials said they will introduce a multifaceted approach to residents to make their gardens and landscaping less susceptible to deer.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — City officials will offer residents tips in keeping deer from wrecking havoc and eating plants in gardens and landscaping areas.

The City's Deer Management Advisory Committee will partner with the Parks and Natural Resources Department and the Bordine’s Nursery to host the "Gardening and Landscaping with Deer" seminar on April 28th, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium.

City officials said they will introduce a multifaceted approach to residents to make their gardens and landscaping less susceptible to deer. Officials were expected to share deer repellents and which plants deer tend to dislike the most.

"This program is a great way to connect our residents with local experts and provide the latest information on landscaping with a high deer population," Rochester Hills’ Natural Resources Manager Matt Einheuser said. "With the help of these tips, we hope our neighbors will find success in their gardening activities."

The seminar is free for residents, and they can sign up for this program at www.rochesterhills.org/outdoors.

The city created the Deer Management Advisory Committee in 2009 to review deer-related car crash statistics in Rochester Hills, as the city battles an overpopulation of deer. The number of deer-related crashes in Rochester Hills decreased over the past few years.
