Updated: 2 Oakland County Boys Under 5 Die After Fevers

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – A 4½-year-old boy from Rochester Hills whose parents said they took him to the doctor Saturday when he developed a high fever died that night after responders were unable to revive him, authorities said.

The child stopped breathing about 9:45 p.m. Saturday, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The Oakland Press reported Tuesday that a second boy, age 4 months, died Monday at Providence Hospital after being ill with a fever. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the boy’s death.

Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and paramedics with the Rochester Hills Fire Department, who responded to the home in the 20 block of Timberview, began cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced life-saving measures, but were unable to revive the boy.

He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital – Troy, where staff continued medical efforts. After all efforts were exhausted, the child was pronounced dead.

The boy’s parents said that after taking him to the doctor for treatment of the fever, they were sent home with medication.

The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office sent an investigator, and Rochester Hills detectives are investigating as well, the sheriff’s office said.
