Rochester Hills Woman Arrested In Crash That Injured Trooper: Police

DETROIT — A Rochester Hills woman was arrested Thursday morning in connection to a crash that injured a state trooper on a Detroit freeway, according to Michigan State Police.

The trooper parked his SUV on the eastbound lanes on Interstate 94 near Livernois Avenue in Detroit at 2:40 a.m. to block off traffic while officials put out a fiery crash, police said.

The trooper was out of his SUV and directing traffic toward the Livernois Avenue exit when the speeding driver struck the police cruiser, which then hit the trooper, police said.

The trooper was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later released and expected to be ok, police said.

The 32-year-old Rochester Hills woman was arrested in the crash on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to a hospital for a blood draw, police said.

No one else was injured in the crash, police said.

"We were very lucky that this sergeant wasn’t more seriously hurt," Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. "Poor driving decisions are continuing to put everyone in danger on our roads. Please move over for emergency vehicles and don’t drive impaired."

Interstate 94 near Livernois Avenue reopened Thursday morning, police said.

Officials were still investigating the crash.
