Police said the heavy rain in the Rochester area over the weekend and Monday caused the river's water levels to rise with a very fast current.
Police warned some areas of the river in Rochester are already tough to navigate and become even more difficult after heavy rain.
"There are many sharp turns and obstacles along the way. High waters and strong currents after a storm can turn this comparable class 1 or 2 river into a class 3, or at times, 4 river quickly. Please be safe, know the river conditions and your skill level, and have fun," Rochester Police said.
