UPDATED: School on Lockdown Due to Police Investigation

The schools were placed on lockdown after an employee of an adjacent business reportedly made a threat.

AUBURN HILLS, MI - Two Auburn Hills schools — Avondale High School and Auburn Elementary — were placed on lockdown Monday morning after a threat on a business adjacent to the schools, police said.

The lockdown was cautionary, and remained in effect throughout the school day, according to The Detroit News. The schools are located near Squirrel and Auburn roads.

“We understand that threat came from a former employee of the business,” said James V.Schwarz, superintendent of the Avondale School District, told the newspaper. “The school district has received no threat to schools or students.”

Auburn Hills police said on the department’s Facebook page that the Avondale schools would be dismissing at normal times and buses would run on schedule Monday.

“Again, there was no threat to the schools,” the police department posted. “Please let your child come home from school as they normally do. Unplanned additional traffic in and around the school will create more of a hazard for students.”

About 1,100 students attend Avondale High School. Enrollment at the elementary school is about 350.

Two Avondale School District schools — Avondale High School and Auburn Elementary School, both in Auburn Hills — are on lockdown Monday morning due to a police investigation in the area.

It’s unclear what police are investigating, according to a tweet from the Auburn Hills Police Department.

Both schools are located east of Squirrel Road between Auburn Road and South Boulevard.
