The sexual assault is believed to have occurred at the Beacon Hills Apartment complex, university police said in a statement.
The suspect and the victim reportedly knew one another.
“The Oakland University Police Department acknowledges that many OU students reside in and visit the complex and is issuing this safety advisory in light of this fact,” campus police said in the statement.
Campus community members are encouraged to consider the following:
- Sexual assault is non-consensual activity, ranging from unwanted touching to forced intercourse. This can include sexual contact with persons who are under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any other intoxicants that impair their judgment.
- Persons looking to engage in sexual activity should always seek verbal, sober and clear consent, and immediately stop sexual advances if the other person indicates no interest or if they say “no.” Consent to one sexual act does not imply consent to another. The absence of a person saying “no” does not mean he or she is saying “yes.” Pressuring or coercing someone into engaging in sexual activity is sexual assault.
- Persons witnessing a situation that appears unsafe or that makes them uncomfortable should intervene if it’s safe to do so, elicit help from a friend, or go to a safe area and call for help.
- If a person seems too intoxicated to make sound decisions, companions should get him or her to a safe place immediately.
- In any situation in which a campus community member is unsure or scared about a situation they are experiencing or witnessing, he or she should call the Oakland University Police Department immediately at (248) 370-3333.
The Auburn Hills Police Department is investigating the report. It’s unclear if students were involved.
