She Found Her Grandfather's Fortune
"Love Never Fails" Regional Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses
Before 18 year old GuiFeng’s grandfather died, his deathbed wishes changed the course of her life. He regretted not having a monetary inheritance to give. In fact, it had been taken. But, desiring to impart a fortune of sorts, he told his granddaughter to do 3 things, “One, you have to have love to be happy, two, you have to have wisdom to help you avoid danger and make good decisions and, three, you have to work hard.” Sadly, traditional schooling didn’t teach her love or wisdom, though she did work hard to obtain it. First, she acquired an Associate’s Degree in China. Then, a Bachelors in the United States. Next, a Masters. Upon being offered a scholarship to complete a Doctorate, she declined. Why? She found the rest of her grandpa’s fortune.
Reading novels in China, she came across a definition of love, unaware of the original source, “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous. It does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” She kept the saying in a scrapbook thinking to herself “If love is what we desire, why doesn’t the world have it?” In May 1998, she met a young man, an Electrical Engineer named RuHe, who after 2 months, proposed marriage. She hesitantly replied “I don’t know.” After all, to marry this man meant moving to the U.S., leaving her parents and culture behind. Months later when he asked again, she agreed thinking it would be rude otherwise.
After their marriage and move to Texas, GuiFeng’s goal became mastering English. Thus, when someone offered her an English conversation class, she accepted. Later, she realized the class was actually a Bible study. So, she asked, “If love is what we desire, why doesn’t the world have it?” Through her Bible study sessions and subsequently 1 John 5:19, she learned the answer as well as the original source of the definition of love from years ago. During this time, she continue to work hard not only at learning English, Bible study and her degrees, at times taking 21 credit hours, but also 2 part time jobs.

Near the turbulence of 9/11, the couple moved to Alabama. There, RuHe started taking his wife to some Jehovah’s Witness meetings. He didn’t want to necessarily, he wasn’t even sure there was a God, but GuiFeng wanted to continue her Bible studies, having at last found love and wisdom from them. Admittedly, he couldn’t help but notice the unselfish love, especially so at their conventions. He thought, “What is really driving these people to give their best?” Eventually, he too began to study the Bible with none other than a fellow engineer, an Indian man named Suresh.
After some time, they each dedicated their lives to God through baptism and only then started a family, a joint venture requiring a lot of love, wisdom and hard work. Having found her grandpa’s fortune, GuiFeng uses it to train her 2 happy daughters, Rebecca and Abby, where they now live in Rochester Hills, Michigan, to obtain the highest education possible, a moral one.
GuiFeng and her family will be in attendance August 23-25, 2019 at the the Belleville, MI Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses as Mandarin-Chinese congregations gather to consider this year’s theme “Love Never Fails.” This is just one in a series of worldwide conventions being held this summer. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
