The NPS grant program, funded under the federal Clean Water Act and the state Clean Michigan Initiative, helps manage watersheds to prevent and mitigate nonpoint source pollution. Nonpoint source pollution occurs when pollutants from land run off into waterways.
The funding also comes in addition to a watershed council support grant totaling $18,750, which state officials recently awarded to the Clinton River Watershed Council in Rochester Hills. Funds can be used for education, outreach, watershed management efforts and more.
