Students Cramming for Finals Pause for Puppies

Oakland University students take a break from finals — and puppies in training as future leader dogs get a break, too.

ROCHESTER, MI - Because puppies.

Oakland University students stressed out by finals were able play with puppies from Rochester Hills-based Leader Dogs for the Blind during the annual Pause for Puppies event Thursday, one of several activities offered during of Stress-Free Finals Week activities on the Rochester campus.

The event was a break for the puppies, too. They’re “leader dogs in training” that will one day lead serious lives of service for the disabled.

Students could stop in Kresge Library and play with the puppies. Chair massages and yoga activities were also available, but for freshman Nicole Bremerkamp, 18, of Sterling Heights, the puppies were the attraction.

“I don’t have any pets of my own,” she explained to The Oakland Press, “so when I see a puppy, it’s exciting.”

Troy junior Ashley Rayis, 21, still had two finals to go when she stopped into the library for some puppy time.

“I love dogs, so it’s a great way for all students to get relief from studying,” she said.
