Prince's 'Purple Rain': Where to See It In Metro Detroit This Week
Selected AMC Theatres, Cinema Detroit, Redford Theatre showing 1984 autobiographical film that catapulted Prince's career through next week.

DETROIT, MI – “Purple Rain,” the 1984 autobiographical masterpiece that showcased Prince Rogers Nelson’s brilliance, will return to Detroit area theaters for a limited run next week.
The 1984 film with its seminal soundtrack earned more than $68 million at the box office and made Prince an Oscar winner.
It is the story of a young man with a talent for music whose career begins with great promise. He meets an aspiring singer, Apollonia, and finds that talent alone isn't all that he needs.It is a complicated tale of his repeating his father's self destructive behavior, losing Apollonia to another singer (Morris Day), and his coming to grips with his own connection to other people ensues.

AMC Theaters are showing the film at two locations in Detroit this weekend:
- AMC Forum 30, 44681 Mound Road, Sterling Heights, at 3:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday (buy tickets here) and 3:50 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday (buy tickets here). Showings are also scheduled daily through Thursday.
- AMC Great Lakes 25 at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, 4300 Baldwin Road, Auburn Hills, through Thursday. Showtimes are 1:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Showings are scheduled daily through Thursday.
Cinema Detroit, located at 4126 Third St. in Midtown, has five showings, one each evening next week. Buy tickets here for 8 p.m. showings Monday through Friday. As Cinema Detroit said on its website, "Dearly beloved, we will gather here next week to celebrate this thing called Prince’s life …" — a nod to the opening stanza of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Carmike Theaters are also returning the iconic film.
Locations in Michigan are Fashion Square 10 in Saginaw and the Cherry Blossom 14 IMAX theater in Traverse City.
