Whitmer's Address Will Include Oxford HS Student's Painting

OXFORD, MI — Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Monday the 2022 State of the State program will pay tribute to the victims, families, and the entire Oxford community with a painting by local Oxford student Luke.

The meaningful art piece pays homage with a painting of a photo that was taken in the parking lot at Oxford High School a week before the tragedy. It will be featured inside the 2022 State of the State program cover.

"What is most special to me about Oxford are the stunning sunsets and sunrises atop North Oxford Road which brings light to a new day," Oxford High School student Luke said.

Whitmer called the painting of Oxford's sky beautiful, and said it's a reminder that Oxford is a strong, resilient community.

"It reminds all of us to look up and look out for each other," Whitmer said. "I want to thank Luke for taking the time to create this masterpiece and for enshrining something he loves about his hometown into Michigan’s history."

During her 2022 State of the State address, Whitmer will lay out the state's policy proposals. The 2022 State of the State address will be held in a virtual format and broadcast live throughout the state on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
