Woman Steals Purses, Cashes Stolen Check At Rochester Hills Bank: Cops

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Police are asking the community to help identify a woman who cashed a stolen check at a Rochester Hills bank.

On July 25, police said the woman drove up to the window of the First State Bank located at 1575 S. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills and cashed a stolen check written for $3,250 using the stolen ID and posing as the victim.

When the woman tried cashing a second check immediately after the first transaction, the bank teller became suspicious and alerted police, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

The bank teller tried to keep the woman at the window, but she drove off in a white GMC Terrain with a stolen Michigan license plate, EDR0962, officials said. The SUV was reported stolen the next day.

The woman also tried using stolen credit cards to buy $1,459 worth of gift cards from a Walmart in Roseville, but the purchase was declined, officials said. Further purchases were also attempted in Chesterfield Township.

The incidents happened over a three-day period in July beginning on July 23 when multiple women said their purses were stolen from their vehicles in St. Clair Shores, officials said.

Anyone with information or can identify the suspect was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for tips leading to the suspect’s arrest. Tipsters remain anonymous.
