10-year-old Piano Prodigy Ethan Bortnick Wows Beaumont Crowd

Piano prodigy Ethan Bortnick, 10, who has been playing piano since age 3, entertained young patients and adults at Royal Oak's Thursday afternoon as a preview to at the . 

Ethan performed original songs and popular standards in recognition of the Children’s Miracle Network of Hospitals.

Ethan said when he was just 3 years old his parents thought what they were hearing was a Baby Einsteins compact disc, but quickly discovered it was their son playing.

He plays many genres of music, and has performed with many popular artists including Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, The Jonas Brothers, Elton John, Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand.

Beaumont Hospital surgical resident Hugh Chung stopped in for the performance and said he thought Ethan was great.

Ethan's father, Gene Bortnick, said all of his son's performances benefit a charity near to the family's heart. "That will keep him grounded," Gene said.

The Botnick family teamed with the Children's Miracle Network of Hospitals after the family's 5-year-old son, Nathan, underwent three heart surgeries.

A portion of the proceeds from Ethan's Friday night performance will benefit displaced Iraqi Christians.
