2 Arrested, Facing Charges For Kidnapping Ferndale Student

Police said the couple kidnapped the 16-year-old student at gunpoint and took her to an unknown house where they sexually assaulted her.

FERNDALE, MI — A couple from Ferndale was arrested and facing multiple felonies for kidnapping a Ferndale High School student at gunpoint from a gas station on Wednesday, police said.

Police said the 16-year-old was forcibly taken from the gas station on Pinecrest and Eight Mile at 11 a.m. to an unknown house for more than five hours, where they tortured and sexually assaulted her.

The couple, a 44-year-old man and a 44-year-woman are facing charges, including felony firearm, unlawful imprisonment and first-degree criminal sexual conduct, police said.

They were expected to be arraigned in court on Friday afternoon, police said.

A letter signed by Ferndale School Superintendent Dania Bazzi confirmed the girl was returned to her family.

"I am elated to report that the female FHS student who was abducted yesterday was located later that afternoon and is back with her family," Bazzi said.

Although police believe this was a random act, they confirmed the community is safe as it relates to this case.
