2 Students Shot During Oak Park High School Football Game: Reports

Officials said the shooting happened Friday near the end of Oak Park's homecoming football game against Ferndale High School​, reports said.

OAK PARK, MI — Two students were shot Friday night during Oak Park High School's homecoming football game against Ferndale High School, according to multiple reports citing police and district officials.

Oak Park police were called to Oak Park High School around 8:15 p.m. after receiving a call about a possible fight in the parking lot, according to a Detroit News report. When officers arrived, police said they heard several gunshots and saw a large group of students fleeing in multiple directions, reports said.

Officers didn't locate any victims but found multiple bullet casings at the scene, Fox 2 Detroit reported.

Police were later notified that two victims suffering from gunshot wounds sought treatment at an area hospital, reports said.

In a statement to WXYZ, school officials confirmed both victims were students in the Oak Park district. The suspected shooter is not a district student, officials told WXYZ.

"Regrettably, there was a shooting incident that took place outside the game involving two students from the Oak Park School district. It is of paramount importance to reiterate that the safety and well-being of our students are our highest priorities," the school district said in its statement. "In response to this incident, the involved students were promptly transported to a local hospital for immediate medical attention. Our thoughts and prayers are with the students and their families who have been affected by this incident."

Police did not identify a potential suspect. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
