4 Break-Ins While Royal Oak Residents Away Believed Related: Police
Residents reported the thefts of computer equipment, jewelry, cash and currency, and other items.

ROYAL OAK, MI — The Royal Oak Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating four breaking and entering cases authorities believe are related. All four occurred in the neighborhood west of Campbell and south of Lincoln when the residents were away from their homes.

900 block of Mohawk, sometime between 3 p.m. on Aug. 23 and 2:12 p.m. on Aug. 25: The suspect gained entry by forcing open a window and stole an Acer Aspire laptop, HP Pro laptop, an undisclosed amount of foreign currency, miscellaneous jewelry, and loose coins. 16-30274
1200 block of S. Campbell, sometime between 5:30-11:30 p.m. on Aug. 27: The suspect gained entry by forcing open a window and stole a wedding ring, checkbook and an undisclosed amount of currency. 16-30584

900 block of Owana, sometime between 2 p.m. Aug. 26 and 6:45 p.m. Aug. 28: The suspect gained entry by prying open the door wall and stole miscellaneous jewelry. 16-30689
900 block of Knowles, sometime between 9 p.m. on Aug. 27 and 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 28: The suspect gained entry by forcing open a window and stole an undisclosed amount of currency, Apple MacBook Pro laptop, Apple MacBook Air, Dr. Dre Beats Speaker, earbuds, headphones, and an Adidas backpack. 16-30605

Larceny
200 block of Laplaza Court, 8-25-16, 7:30 a.m. – 8:42 p.m.: Complainant reported he left his Black Diamond mountain bike unsecured next to his residence. When he returned he discovered an unknown suspect had stolen his bicycle. 16-30315
2214 E. Eleven Mile (Tim Horton’s) 8/25/16, 3:05 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect approached the counter and ordered a coffee. When the clerk opened the register the suspect reached over the counter, grabbed an undisclosed amount of currency, and fled the store. The suspect got into a white van and left the area east bound on E. Eleven Mile. The suspect was described as a white male, approximately 30-years-old, 5’6”-5’7, thin build with a buzz cut. He was wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts. 16-30279
3601 W Thirteen Mile Rd. (William Beaumont Hospital), 8-28-16, 7:15 p.m.: Complainant, a hospital employee, reported a female suspect/patient of the hospital stole her wallet from her desk near the hospital entrance. The suspect female was observed and detained by security staff and turned over to police. 16-30692
Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile
800 block of Wyandotte, 8-29-16 – 8-30-16, 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.: Complainant reported he parked his 2006 Honda Accord in his driveway. When he returned he discovered an unknown suspect had stolen his vehicle. 16-30845
S. Kenwood and Kalama, 8-27-16 – 8-28-16, 2:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.: Complainant reported she parked her 2015 Jeep Cherokee near the intersection. When she returned she discovered an unknown suspect had stolen her vehicle. 16-30607
Larceny from an Automobile 1000 E. Lincoln, 8-29-16 -8-30-16, 8:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.: Complainant reported both of his vehicles were parked on the street in front of his residence. When he returned he discovered an unknown suspect had stolen a deactivated cell phone from one of the vehicles. 16-30843
300 E. Parent, 8-26-16 – 8-28-16, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Complainant reported he parked his 2016 Chrysler 300 in a parking lot. When he returned he discovered an unknown suspect had broken out the passenger side window and stolen the in-dash navigation system. 16-30651
3601 W. Thirteen (William Beaumont Hospital), 8-26-16, 7:00 a.m. – 7:45 p.m.: Complainant reported she parked her 2014 Chrysler Town and Country in a parking lot. When she returned she discovered an unknown suspect had entered her unlocked vehicle and stole the in-dash navigation system. 16-30432
3601 W. Thirteen Mile (William Beaumont Hospital), 826-16, 7:58 p.m.: Complainant reported he parked his 2016 Chrysler 300 on the lower level of the north parking structure. An unknown suspect entered his unlocked vehicle and stole the in-dash navigation system. 16-30431
3601 W. Thirteen Mile (William Beaumont Hospital), 8-26-16, 6:30 p.m.: Complainant reported she parked her 2012 Chrysler 200 in the north parking structure. When she returned she discovered an unknown suspect had stolen the in-dash navigation system. 16-30426
2800 block of Glen View, 8-27-16, 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect forced open the side entry door to his detached garage and stole a generator, air compressor and miscellaneous power tools. 16-30924
Malicious Destruction of Property
628 S. Lafayette (St. Mary’s Catholic Church), 8-26-16, 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect broke out a window on two (2) vehicles parked in the lot. 16-30383
1200 W. Eleven Mile (Gammons Wellness), 8-29-16 – 8-30-16, 5:30 p.m. – 11:00 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect damaged a sign on the south side of the business. 16-30863
Additional Incidents and Information
700 block of Gardenia, 8-29-16, 3:28 a.m.: Complainant reported he was on the second floor of the vacant home. He heard someone walking on construction material in the rear of the residence while working on a project. A short time later he heard a loud bang on the front door, looked out the window, and observed a subject running eastbound on Gardenia toward Campbell. Investigators determined the suspect kicked the front door before fleeing the area. The suspect did not gain entry to the home and nothing was reported stolen.
The suspect was described as a white male, unknown age, wearing baggy blue jean shorts, a dark shirt, and a baseball cap. 16-30725 4400 block of Samoset, 8-30-16, 11:19 p.m.:
Complainant reported he observed an unknown subject sitting in the driver seat of his vehicle which was parked in his driveway. He confronted the subject and told him he was going to call the police and went back into his home to get his phone. When he returned, he observed the suspect walking away from his car eastbound on Samoset and lost sight of him.
The suspect was gone when officers arrived. He was described as a black male, 45 to 50-years-old, 5’8”, with short dark hair, and a stocky build. He was wearing a dark t-shirt, blue jeans, and a dark colored backpack.
The complainant believes he may have entered a red conversion he saw leaving the area a few minutes later. Nothing was taken from the unlocked vehicle. 16-30933
