ROYAL OAK, MI — The Detroit Zoo welcomed its newest arrivals, three new river otter pups.
The North American river otter pups were recently born at the zoo to mom Kalee and dad Gus, zoo officials said Monday.
Officials said the tiny newcomers are currently behind the scenes with mom where animal care staff are keeping a close eye on them.
"They may be small, but they’re meeting all development milestones — even doubling their weight in just one week," officials said.
Officials said the pups need time to grow before making their public debut, which they believe will be sometime this summer.
Meanwhile, Gus is at the Edward Mardigian Sr. River Otter Habitat near the front of the zoo, officials said.
