ROYAL OAK, MI — A new young adult male giraffe has joined the Detroit Zoo, officials said Wednesday.
Nguvu comes from the Hogle Zoo in Utah and will join the rest of the giraffe herd at the Detroit Zoo, officials said.
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Giraffe Species Survival Plan recommended Nguvu's move to the Detroit Zoo.
The group helps to promote the health, genetic diversity and overall sustainability of giraffe populations in zoos across the nation.
"During his acclimation period, guests may notice changes in giraffe viewing based on his comfort, care needs and the weather," zoo officials said. "There may be times when the indoor giraffe habitat is closed to the public as well."
